How to support your child at home

Supporting your child

We value the support you provide your child in enhancing their learning. It is important that your child is given the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in a different environment in order for their knowledge and skills to become embedded.

You can support your child at home by:

  • Listening to them read regularly. This can be their stage book, library book or any book at home. We ask that each child reads at least three times per week for a minimum of ten minutes and that their reading record is signed by an adult.
  • Asking your child comprehension questions based on the text they have read.
  • Getting your child to practise their times tables (TT Rockstars).
  • Getting your child to practise their spellings. Every child has a spelling log with weekly spellings set. Children should use their logs to practise their spellings each day.
  • Making sure your child completes their weekly homework on MyMaths. Homework is based on learning from the week.
  • Exposing children to real life learning e.g. money, time, measurement.
