  • Application for Secondary School

    Wed 30 Sep 2020 A. Meakin

The Secondary 2021 round opened on 12th September 2020 and the closing date is the 31.10.2020. You will need to go to walsall.gov.uk – education – school admissions – secondary admissions and make your application there. The portal is open between 8am and 9.30pm, if you try before this you will not be able to get on. Passwords have to include one capital letter, ten or more lower case letters, one or two numbers and then a symbol i.e. %/$/£. Please do not use the hashtag symbol.

There is a secondary booklet available on line which will also assist you. The new booklet has details of how to contact schools regarding open evenings. Most schools will refer you to their websites for further advice. I would advise you to read this regarding offers made in the last two years for schools.

The closing date is 31.10.2020 and will not change.

You apply to the local authority that you live in and you can also add other Local Authority schools to your Walsall application totalling 5 preferences. It is not a first come first served basis providing you get your application in by the closing date.

I would advise you not to put just one preference and use up to the five preferences allowed.

  • Head Lice

    Fri 18 Sep 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

It has come to our attention that there are several cases of head lice in school.

Can you please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary.  Also, please ensure that long hair is tied back to try to prevent them from spreading.

    Yours sincerely,

Letter from Walsall Council regarding Transfer to Secondary School September 2021

Our records show your child is due to transfer to secondary school in September 2021.This means that you must apply for a secondary school place for your child by 31 October 2020.

To do this, you must submit an on-line application through the Secondary Admissions web page of Walsall Council website: www.walsall.gov.uk/secondary_school_admissions Alternatively, from the front page of the Walsall Council website, follow: Education – School Admissions – Secondary Admissions (click on Secondary Admissions Chalk Board)

You will also find, on this web page, an online booklet that provides more information about the school admissions process. We strongly recommend that you read this booklet before making your application. www.walsall.gov.uk/Portals/0/Uploads/Education/Secondary%20Admissions%20Booklet%202021%20V4%20for%20web%20page.pdf?ver=2020-09-12-101748-737

Please note that the online application portal is open daily between 8am and 9.30pm each day up until the 31st October 2020.

You should only apply through the Walsall Council website if you are a Walsall resident.  If you pay your council tax to a different Local Authority (LA), then you should apply through them. Contact details for neighbouring LA’s are provided in the online information booklet.

You can list up to five schools on your application, in your order of preference. List all of the schools that you are interested in, including those that may be located in other local authority areas.

Some schools also require applicants to complete an additional Supplementary Information Form (SIF) in addition to naming the school on the online application form. Please refer to the online information booklet to see if you need to complete a Supplementary Information Form for any of your preferred schools. If you intend to name any schools outside Walsall then please contact the relevant LA to check if you are required to complete a Supplementary Information Form for that school.

All places are offered based on how well a child meets the over-subscription criteria for each school and, regrettably, it is not possible to guarantee that a place will be offered at a particular preferred school. We strongly recommend that you use all five preferences and include at least one local school in your selection that you feel that your child would have met the admission criteria for in previous years.

Details of each school’s admissions criteria and how places have been offered in previous years are included in the on-line information booklet.

The deadline for submission of applications is 31 October 2020.

There is ample time for you to consider which schools you intend to list and make your application, there is no priority given to applicants who make their application earlier than others,

It is however extremely important that your application has been submitted by 31 October 2020. Any applications, or changes to your preferred schools, made after this date will be treated as late and will be processed after all those received by the deadline of 31 October 2020.

Making a late secondary school application will reduce the chance of your child being offered a place at your preferred schools.

Included with this letter is a sheet that provides contact details for all Walsall secondary schools. Owing to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, many schools have not yet finalised plans for open evenings so please refer to each school’s website for further details.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application on 1 March 2021.

If you require any advice or support with making your application then please contact the School Admissions and Appeals Team at schooladmissionsadvice@walsall.gov.uk. Members of the team will be pleased to assist you.

    Yours faithfully

  • Home Reading Books and Reading Logs

    Tue 15 Sep 2020

    15th September 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers

Re: Home Reading Books and Reading Logs

Due to current circumstances some changes have been made to home reading.

All children have been given an Oxford Reading Tree (Stage) book that is at a suitable level for their reading ability, and a reading record log. To allow books to be sanitised between use, children will only be able to change their books once per week.

Every Friday, children who need to change their reading books, will need to place their book into the class ‘quarantine’ box. These books will then be sanitised and left over the weekend before being used by other children. Every Monday, each class has been allocated time to select a new book if needed.

As part of children’s homework, we would still like children to read for ten minutes each night and for parents to sign their reading record. If children are waiting for books to be changed over the weekend, please encourage your child to read other materials at home e.g. books, magazines, comics, newspapers etc.

We would also be grateful if you could return any reading books, stage or library books, that went home before lockdown.

If you have any queries about home reading please contact Mrs Weston at school. Thank you again for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely
