  • Comic Relief and Ukraine relief fund

    Wed 09 Mar 2022

    9th March 2022

    Dear Parents and Carers

Re: Comic Relief and Ukraine relief fund

As you are aware, there is a devastating humanitarian disaster unfolding in Europe with Russian forces invading the democratic sovereign state of Ukraine. The recent news articles showing the plight of over two million citizens, predominately women and children, trying to reach bordering countries for refuge has affected us all at Blakenall Heath.

In light of this, and the events we usually do for Comic Relief, we would like ask parents to support our fundraising efforts on Friday 18th March by sending in £2 (or more if you wish to donate) for your children wearing red nose day clothes or blue and yellow for Ukraine.

The money raised will be spilt equally for Comic Relief and the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) who will send the funds directly to bordering countries to support the people arriving at the borders.

We will also sell biscuits and cakes during and after school and again all proceeds will go to the charities, it would be helpful to send your child with loose change to buy these if they wish.

The complex situation is very hard to explain to children but staff will sensitively answer any questions raised during lessons and assemblies about the events happening in Ukraine. We know that BBC Newsround has regular updates and explains the events in a child friendly way. This can be accessed through their website https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround

We can also support any child who is particularly worried or anxious about the events in Ukraine and bordering countries through talking to staff and Shaz in Place2Be.

Thank you again for your continuing support.

    Yours sincerely

  • School gate times

    Tue 01 Mar 2022

    1st March 2022

    Dear Parents and Carers

    Re: Getting back to normal!

Following the lifting of more COVID restrictions we are starting to get back to our normal day-to-day routines and provision – including assemblies and visiting our school library. During the pandemic, we extended the gate opening times to allow for a flow of pupils and parents and prevent pinch points and contact between bubbles. As this has all now been fully lifted, we will be returning to our normal gate times from Monday 7th March. There is no change to the end of school day times.

The gate times will be as follows:

8.00am - Pedestrian gate opens for Breakfast Club

8.35am - Playground gates and doors open

    8.45am - School starts

8.50am - Playground gates close – late pupils will then need to go through the pedestrian gate and through reception to register and order lunches.

    2.55pm – Playground gates open

    3.00pm – School finishes

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter and your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,
